There are many old data-centric applications that, for historical reasons, use direct modem connections to exchange data between Client and Server. Nowadays, local and global TCP/IP networks have made the direct modem connection obsolete.
Here's why: When you use a direct modem connection, you need to have a physical modem installed on each PC that needs to exchange data. You also must use a physical phone line. This makes the line busy and may even be costly, if long distance calls are required. Modem transfers are also not secure. A hacker doesn't even need to have an access to your phone line. Your data can be easily intercepted with a remote phone line scanner. In a TCP/IP network, on the contrary, you can use the power of a VPN (Virtual Private Networking), SSH or any other secure tunnel to ensure privacy and security.
There are a lot of reasons to move from a direct modem connection to TCP/IP networking. But, how can you do this without investing thousands into new software? Virtual Modem from FabulaTech provides a cheap and effective solution. This program creates virtual modems that use your local network or the Internet instead of a physical phone line.
How does it work? The virtual modems are accessible to all the applications that work through a direct modem connection. Setup is no different from setting up a physical modem. You simply select a virtual COM port in your communication application settings. The application can control the virtual modem directly by sending AT commands or with TAPI (MS Windows Telephony API). Thus, Virtual Modem should work out-of-the-box for all your communication programs.
One of the very useful Virtual Modem features is its "Address Book". The Address Book allows you to transparently translate phone numbers into IP addresses. You don't even have to change the phone numbers in your communication programs. Just put them into your Address Book.

Virtual Null Modem 2.0.5.27 ... Null-modem cable is basically used for communication of two RS-232 DTE devices with each other. To create null-modem connection between the devices you need to use two computers or two serial ports of a single computer connected with null-modem cable. The both methods described above are expensive and difficult because of many reasons. The most reliable way to create null-modem connection is using of virtual serial ports emulated by virtual serial port driver and null-modem cable. Why do you ...
Virtual Modem PRO 3.0 ... Virtual Modem PRO 3.0 creates software virtual IP-modems and maps them to virtual serial ports in Windows OS. The product was developed to emulate standard hardware modems. New feature of Virtual Modem PRO enables not only to fully emulate Fax Class 1 modems, but also send faxes to any place on the Internet using virtual modems. All major software fax applications are supported (Microsoft Fax/Ventafax/SnappyFax 2000/Mighty Fax). So you may set up and use Windows Fax service or any third-party ...
Virtual Serial Port Driver XP4.5 4.5 ... Virtual Serial Ports Driver XP creates two pure virtual serial ports in your system which are virtually connected to each other. For other Windows applications, virtual ports will be seen exactly as two real serial ports connected via null-modem cable. With virtual ports created by Virtual Serial Port Driver XP you can connect applications to each other and exchange data between them without occupying your real serial ports and using hardware wiring. Virtual link between virtual serial ports is ...
Virtual Serial Port Kit 4.9.2 ... Virtual Serial Port Kit creates pairs of virtual serial ports in your system which are virtually connected to each other. Physical null modem cables are not required. You can connect any number of virtual port pairs. Virtual serial port pairs will look and work exactly like real hardware serial ports connected via null modem cables.Virtual Serial Port Kit is designed for software developer to speed up development process during debugging and data-logging period and cut months or even years from ...
Virtual Serial Port Driver XP4 4.0 ... Virtual Serial Port Driver XP4 creates two pure virtual serial ports in your system which are virtually connected to each other. For other Windows applications, virtual ports will be seen exactly as two real serial ports connected via null-modem cable. You can select any port numbers for virtual pair. For example, you can create virtual pair COM5-COM6. In this case all data sent by other applications to COM5 will arrive at COM6, and all data sent to COM6 will arrive at COM5. This can be seen if ...
